CDP new feature: user tagging via CSV upload
Managing contact tagging in a simple and controlled way is an increasingly common need, especially when selection, exclusion, or analysis criteria are defined outside standard data flows.
To address this need, we have introduced a new feature in the CDP that allows contacts’ markers to be automatically updated through a daily import from a CSV file.
What it’s for
The Daily Marker Import from CSV feature allows marker fields to be applied and updated on contacts in the database in a centralized, automated, and governed way.
Markers therefore become immediately available for segmentation processes, without requiring manual actions or changes to existing integrations.
With a single mechanism, it is possible to cover three fundamental operational needs:
1. Target selection
Precisely identify specific groups of contacts to include in campaigns, communications, or dedicated initiatives, based on externally defined criteria provided via a CSV file.
2. Target exclusion (Exclusion List)
Create dynamic exclusion lists to prevent communications from being sent to specific contacts (for example, users already involved in other initiatives, ineligible subjects, or frequency constraints), without altering other data in the database.
3. Control group creation
Manage control groups useful for analysis and experimentation activities, such as A/B tests or performance measurement, while maintaining a historical record of the contacts belonging to these groups over time.
How it works
The system runs a daily import process that reads a CSV file, placed in a dedicated SFTP location, and updates the following fields on contacts:
marker1(string)marker1_date(date)
The import only affects contacts included in the file, identified through a configurable matching key (for example ID, email address, or phone number).
Values provided in the file always overwrite existing ones, including empty values, ensuring consistency and long-term control.
If the daily file is not available, no changes are applied.
Why it’s useful
- Greater flexibility in contact management
- Markers independent from data integrations
- Reduced manual activities and lower risk of errors
- Native support for targets, exclusion lists, and control groups
Conclusion
This new feature provides a simple and reliable way to manage strategic contact tagging through labels or dates, improving control and effectiveness in segmentation and analysis activities.
